I am working my way through me e-mails and didn't want to forget to share this article.

1) Keep them busy with non essentials.

2) Tempt them to overspend and go into debt.

3) Make them work long hours to maintain empty life styles.

4) Discourage them from spending family time together, for when their homes disintegrate there is no refuge from work.

5) Over stimulate their minds with television and computers, so they can’t hear God speaking to them."

Online Shark Dissection Lab

Virtual Shark Lab

My children are doing this lab today as part of their homeschool to go along with our trip to the beach. I also recently found a shark specimen in a jar as a gift for Brandon for $2 in a thrift store that will compliment the lesson.

Grave Digger

Oregon Inlet

sea turtle nest

We are back from our 5 bedroom, two master suite, 4 bath beach rental in Duck, NC where we had a wonderful time! We relaxed and played together the entire week! Since most large families require two to three hotel rooms due to state fire codes and occupancy requirements, renting a beach house for a week is a more affordable option. It's also much more comfortable!

We met NEST volunteers who were watching over sea turtle nests about to hatch. They told us if they started hatching while we were there, they'd invite our family to watch!

We got together with two sets of friends, ate new-to-us foods (alligator and Mahi-Mahi), found the Corolla horses again, collected sea shells, explored Oregon Inlet's 4x4 beaches, met new people, found sea glass, swam in the pool, lounged in the hot tub, relaxed in the jacuzzi, played air hockey, ate out, played games, enjoyed shopping, enjoyed the ocean views from our room and balconies, etc, etc. It was a fun eight days!

Homemade Ice Cream Cake:

bottom layer: whipped cream with crushed Oreo cookies folded into it

middle layer: ice cream sandwiches

top layer: whipped cream with chocolate sprinkles
It takes 15 min to prepare and is always a huge hit!

Clint and I were getting concerned Joshua's bike might not get here in time, but it came last night!Bethany wanted a purple bike with handle bar tassles and a basket. Joshua wanted a blue bike. We ordered them online from Amazon. Bethany's bike was through Amazon and came in two days! Joshua's was through an Amazon vendor and took considerably longer.

You should be able to view the rest of the pictures from their surprise party (and our summer) here:

Emily got a surprise! The bottom picture is when she realized the quilt had Hello Kitty all over it!

Thank you Susan and Vencil!
