If laughter keeps you young...

smartasses

If laughter keeps you young...
I should be the youngest-looking 53-year-old woman on earth!

Joshua was pretending he was going to hit me. I knew he would not harm me intentionally. BUT...

It was his first time driving the old Ferguson. I wasn't too confident in his driving skills which is why the picture is blurry. I was "giving ground!" That youngest boy of mine is in the background enjoying the show with an ear-to-ear grin. And yes, I called them both a name.

SHE WAS BEAUTIFUL....

 SHE WAS BEAUTIFUL....

.... but she didn't know what that meant.
When she was a little girl
they told her she was beautiful
but it had no meaning
in her world of bicycles
and pigtails
and adventures in make-believe.
Later, she hoped she was beautiful
as boys started taking notice
of her friends
and phones rang for
Saturday night dates.
She felt beautiful on her wedding day,
hopeful with her
new life partner by her side
but, later,
when her children called
her beautiful,
she was often exhausted,
her hair messily tied back,
no make up,
wide in the waist
where it used to be narrow;
she just couldn't take it in.
Over the years, as she tried,
in fits and starts,
to look beautiful,
she found other things
to take priority,
like bills
and meals,
as she and her life partner
worked hard
to make a family,
to make ends meet,
to make children into adults,
to make a life.
Now,
she sat.
Alone.
Her children grown,
her partner flown,
and she couldn't remember
the last time
she was called beautiful.
But she was.
It was in every line on her face,
in the strength of her arthritic hands,
the ampleness that had
a million hugs imprinted
on its very skin,
and in the jiggly thighs and
thickened ankles
that had run her race for her.
She had lived her life with a loving
and generous heart,
had wrapped her arms
around so many to
to give them comfort and peace.
Her ears had
heard both terrible news
and lovely songs,
and her eyes
had brimmed with,
oh, so many tears,
they were now bright
even as they dimmed.
She had lived and she was.
And because she was,
she was made beautiful.

We are truly blessed!

watersedgeatresort

Keep me near you like a seal you wear over your heart,
like a signet ring you wear on your hand.
Love is as strong as death.
Passion is as strong as the grave.
Its sparks become a flame,
and it grows to become a great fire!
A flood cannot put out love.
    Rivers cannot drown love.
Would people despise a man for giving
    everything he owns for love?

Song of Solomon 8:6-7

Today, Clint and I are celebrating
32 years of marriage
and 35!!!! years together as a couple.

A Quiet Place

shroomhunting

We recently had the opportunity to meet our oldest two children for breakfast and a long pleasant hike and talk. We then went home and did a Bible study together with the rest of the family. Seasons of life come and go, but there is something to value and enjoy in all of them.

Agree with God, and be at peace; thereby good will come to you.
Job 22:21

Came Home to Find

miracleoldfriend

Our old friend is not doing that well.

Miracle has lost weight and is more wobbly. She has very few teeth, so she is on a wet food diet. When I am home, I will prepare other food for her, so I think some of the weight loss is because I was not here to do that.

So far today, she has eaten almost 3/4 of a salmon steak I pureed for her. Her tummy is so full; it is tight! The family at home did feed her every day, but they don't think of pureeing different foods for her. Miracle is like a toddler in that she wants some of whatever I am eating.

I've also noticed she likes to stay in whatever room I am in when I am home. She's at my feet as I recline while I type this. I think she knows I will watch over her while she is sleeping.

She has been declining visibly over the last few months. I've spoken to everyone in the family and warned them her departure may be getting closer. I dread the day I have to make the decision. It's going to be very painful for everyone, including me.

My Crown of Splendor

I asked Amanda recently to dye my hair because I didn't want to create a stumbling block by making others envious over my Crown of Splendor.  Ha ha!!

Amanda is bossy and sassy while my hair is being colored. I get a kick out of it! Temporary role reversals can be very entertaining.

She calls my grey my "wisdom hairs." I like the way she thinks! When I am in her chair, and I mention them, she says, "What grey hair? I don't see any grey hair! What are you talking about?" She's the best!

Amanda also told me that Clint and I are not aging as fast as people normally do. We have much less than 50% of grey.

My same child told me it bothers her that I am turning 50 this year because she loves her "mommy" and doesn't want to think about me growing old. I told her, Lord willing, I plan to stick around a long time because I have many more pranks to pull on her!

Grow old along with me! The best is yet to be... -Robert Browning
