Diablo Pequeno

Photobucket

This is Diablo Pequeno. There is a very good reason for his name.
He bit me 3 times the first time I handled him which caused me to utter under my breath "Why, you little devil!" When I gave him back to Joshua, he was afraid of being bitten so the iguana escaped. Diablo hid in a curtain where he could easily observe the entire family looking for him. When we found him and saw him watching us one of the children quipped "You're right! He is a little devil!"

He already "tail whips" fairly hard, or so reports Amanda whose curiosity keeps her putting her hand in his tank. Adult iguanas can pose some danger when handled, but he's already settled down a lot with consistent training. Something about me saying "If you like it and want to keep it, do the work to tame it down! If it grows large and is a danger, it WILL go." inspired the boys to handle him every day.

Bearded Dragons are docile, gentle, and often friendly creatures that are easily handled.

the "beard" that gives them their name

Joshua and Caleb are trying to successfully raise bearded dragons. Their long anticipated first eggs were damaged by the female when she stepped on them. They tried to incubate them anyway, but it did not work. If all goes according to their research, they will have another opportunity in a few weeks. They already have people who want to buy them including a couple of pet stores. I am not crazy about lizards, but I am crazy about two little boys. Allowing your children the freedom to follow their interests keeps life interesting!

Proverbs 30:24 and 28 There be four things which are little upon the earth, but they are exceeding wise: ..a lizard can be caught with the hand, yet it is found in kings’ palaces.
