I broke the ends off of parsnips I purchased from the grocery store and planted them. These will not grow another large root, but they will bolt and make seeds I can sow in the fall. I am hoping I can get a large bed of these growing.
If you try this, try it while temperatures are cooler. Look for parsnips that have some green on the top. The better the sign of life, the better the results. I read somewhere that you should do these in water, but I do not like having to change the water every so often. That's one more thing to keep up with that I do not need. The soil worked wonderfully for me.
