Faults are thick where love is thin

After one of our children shared some observations of something that happened in their workplace, we had a discussion about how to handle it. These are the notes from that discussion.

You can see how much love a person carries in their heart for someone by how they speak of the other person. Their words will reveal what is going on inside of them. For out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks. Matthew 12:24

Faults are thick where love is thin. -English proverb

Are you a peacemaker trying to heal divisions, or do you encourage divisions in God's people with the advice you give? Do you encourage or discourage peace in your own life?

A good thing to ask ourselves about each person in our life is: Are we finding FAULT with other people or are we finding ways to LOVE them better? Are we focusing on what they did that displeased us/others? Or, are we obeying what God has commanded?

A peacemaker not only tries to help others find peace, they try to make peace with people in their own lives.*

Romans 5:8
But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Proverbs 2:3-5
Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others. In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus:

Galatians 2:20
I have been crucified with Christ, and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me.

Ephesians 5:2
and walk in love, just as Christ loved us and gave Himself up for us as a fragrant sacrificial offering to God.

Matthew 5:9
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.

Romans 12:18
If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.

*I add this because I've had a friend murdered by her ex-husband. Others have been hospitalized because of domestic violence. Do not put yourself into an dangerous situation. Do not lose sight of sound wisdom or good judgement. (see Proverbs 3:21)
