How to live in these last days.
notes taken from: https://www.youtube.com/watchv=s1S1djTu9B0&ab_channel=EdYoung
1. We put God first and exalt him and not ourselves. We live to glorify Him and not ourselves.
You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven. Matthew 5:13-16

Prayers Please
4/20: Three people very close to our family are having serious age-related medical issues.
Another friend to our family is at risk of losing his job for an error he made. UPDATE: Richard S. kept his job! The one who gave him the order was fired.
A long-time friend had knee surgery and now is unable to stand. At this point, her family is worried she will never walk again. 4/25: She is now in a rehab facility. She still has not been able to stand on her new knee. 4/27: She has been able to stand, but the pain is hard on her.
One friend had unexpected complications from surgery that is altering her life. Please pray they can find a solution. UPDATE: She is trying to adjust to the new circumstances.
Please lift them all in prayer. Thank you!
*****
4/25: Another friend was found weak and pale. The ER discovered she has anemia. Her hemoglobin is a 7. To avoid complications with her heart issues, she is receiving a transfusion today. If she can keep her level up, she might go home tomorrow. She has an appointment for a colonoscopy. The endoscopy did not reveal any issues. Update: Her bloodwork improved, and they sent her home.
Another friend asks that we pray the Lord delivers her young adult child from the dangerous circumstances they have placed themselves in spiritually, emotionally, and physically.
Clint and his coworkers can use prayer for safe travels tomorrow (26st). It is going to be a very long day for all of them. Update: They had a safe and productive trip.
A very good friend is having heart-related troubles that are making her very, very tired. They are trying to regulate her blood pressure and heart rate.
We have a BIG praise! Tim B, the man who suffered burns all over his body, has finally returned to work! He is on limited duty, but at least he is back.

CONGRATULATIONS AMANDA!!
Well, the word came several days earlier than planned. It has not been announced within the company yet though. (It's OK for me to post it here.)
Amanda passed her Industrial Master Tech exam with flying colors!
She did excellently (98%) on the exam which was graded by 4-5 experts. They said she knocked it out of the ballpark! Not only will she get a big promotion and significant pay raise, but she has also made history within the company!
Within the company, she is the first woman to pass the exam and will be the first female Master Tech.
God gave her the strong mechanical bent, and she is shining brightly for Him as she puts them to use. We are very proud of her and very thankful to the Lord for blessing her with these opportunities.
Ya'll can hate on me if you want to...

Hard hearted
Revelation 9:15-21
And the four angels were loosed, which were prepared for an hour, and a day, and a month, and a year, for to slay the third part of men.
And the number of the army of the horsemen were two hundred thousand thousand: and I heard the number of them.
And thus I saw the horses in the vision, and them that sat on them, having breastplates of fire, and of jacinth, and brimstone: and the heads of the horses were as the heads of lions; and out of their mouths issued fire and smoke and brimstone.
By these three was the third part of men killed, by the fire, and by the smoke, and by the brimstone, which issued out of their mouths.
For their power is in their mouth, and in their tails: for their tails were like unto serpents, and had heads, and with them they do hurt.
And the rest of the men which were not killed by these plagues yet repented not of the works of their hands, that they should not worship devils, and idols of gold, and silver, and brass, and stone, and of wood: which neither can see, nor hear, nor walk:
Neither repented they of their murders, nor of their sorceries, nor of their sexual immorality, nor of their thefts.

But to which of the angels said he at any time, Sit on my right hand, Until I make thine enemies thy footstool? Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation? Hebrews 1:13-14

Why Ascribing Intent Is Making You Miserable
Why Ascribing Intent Is Making You Miserable
"The times when I’m most hurt by what I think other people did, are the times when I compare myself to others. ... Comparison and intent form a vicious cycle. But don’t despair, there is hope. Plenty of people have learned how to take things at face value, and nothing more. They do not ascribe intent, and live happier lives as a result. It comes with practice, maturity, and healthy boundaries."
This article is very good, but there is another side to it. Be very wary of people who are always telling you why someone else behaves the way they do because it will affect your relationships. Listening to them will harden your heart towards people who probably were doing the best they could. Be also wary of someone who tries to tell you how you feel. They will erode your self esteem and destroy your self confidence. Only God can judge motives and intentions. Only He sees into the heart and fully knows and understands. A mature Christian is going to have the wisdom and grace to give the benefit of the doubt and will seek to build relationships rather than tear them apart.

From texts to my children
"When one is truly living for the Lord, one longs to fellowship with other believers.
Resist the pull of this world.
You can easily see examples of people who have completely given over to their flesh (wordly desires), and you can also see people who have sacrificed their flesh to live in the Spirit by following God's Word.
Choose this day whom you will serve."

Tower Road Cumberland Mountain Trail Cumberland, TN
I can't post every place we explored on our trip, but I was asked about this one.
Cumberland Mountain Trail aka Tower Road aka Cell Tower Road Cumberland, Tennessee
Most of these places have more than one name especially when talking with the locals. It can also vary depending on the map app you use. Clint uses around seven or eight different apps.
The marker for the road says 10 and Cumberland Mountain Trail. One off road app called this road Cell Tower Road. The locals called it a few different names. The marker says it can be used by ATVs, dirt bikes, 4WD vehicles, horseback riders, mountain bikers, and hikers.
On our trip, on this trail were mostly SxSs (side by sides) and one dirt biker. The trail is very worn in some areas. There were a few 4WD SUVs. We did not finish it. There were so many SxS held up behind one guy who appeared stuck or broken down. We turned around so we could stay on schedule. Easy road. Nothing too challenging. A regular pickup with a good driver could probably make it UP TO THE POINT we turned around. I do not know what is after that but it looked rockier. It had rained the day before and the clay was slippery in the Suburban on steep grades but nothing too bad. There is a very, very steep hill off of the road that the SxSs and lone dirt biker were using. That looked crazy. There was a memorial marker where a young man died in an accident on this very steep hill.
I saw a couple of places people had camped but I do not know if it is allowed there or not. My love to all. Safe and happy travels!

A favor if you will: (I'm very frustrated)
We had an incident on the farm today. A boy's uncollared, untrained dog got loose and tore into one of our top hens.
The 15-year-old boy was polite and apologetic. In the course of trying to get the dog caught, he told me the dog caught and nearly killed another neighbor's cat. He told me the pen he was given for the dog is falling apart and that is why the dog escaped. I could tell the dog was underweight and wormy. It is not very tame at all. It also aggressively chased after our cats but did not catch them.
Clint called the number the boy gave us for his mother. Clint was polite and explained the situation in the voicemail he left. He did not get a reply.
So, I texted her. I let her know what happened, told her I can't afford livestock losses, and told her I was willing to work with the dog. I'd also teach the boy how to train the dog. I explained I have 30 years of experience and am good with both children and dogs. I feel confident I can train the dog and make him a better pet for her son. I offered wormers, a leash, a collar, etc to help them take care of the dog. We have things to repair the pen with too.
Instead of taking responsibility, the mother denied it was her dog and placed the ownership and blame solely on her child. She did not apologize for the trouble or thank us for the offer, and only said the dog is not trainable at all. She did ask if the hen was alive or dead. I did not answer that because I can handle the loss of one hen.
We caught the poor traumatized hen, tended to the deep and wide puncture wound in her thigh, and administered antibiotics. She may make it if we can keep infections away.
Trying again, I texted the mother one more time. I told her I felt I could train the dog if she would allow it. I also informed her that since her son is a minor, the law will see the dog as her property. Since it has caused problems with other neighbors, I felt she needed to know she is responsible for the actions of the animal under her roof.
While I did not tell her this, it is the reason I told her that: In my opinion, if that dog is not quickly trained, it will very likely bite a person. It's an unneutered alpha male who has already attacked two animals (that I know of) and is one of the most aggressive dog breeds toward humans. The breed doesn't matter as much as the lack of training does.
We have small children in our neighborhood. The dog nearly took off in that direction but we were able to lure it out of the woods to my yard. I alerted the neighbor though.
It's sad, but the dog is probably going to be put down by someone in our neighborhood. I may even have to do it myself. That's going to trouble my heart in several ways. The boy is probably in trouble for the dog escaping because it has a pen that "is falling apart." Ugh!
I'm frustrated. I know what needs to be done and have the supplies to help the dog have a better life and the boy have a better experience with his dog, but the mother isn't open to it. I realize she may have money issues I am unaware of, but that does not negate her responsibility to keep the dog under control.
Dear Reader, If you will, please pray with me that if I can be God's instrument in this situation that God will soften the mother's heart and open the doors so I can work with the dog. I can not emphasize how much it tears at my heart to put a dog down when it starts to kill our livestock. I am an empathetic person. I carry stuff with me. I feel bad for the dog and will feel bad for this boy if it comes to that. I get quite angry at the irresponsible person who neglected to prevent the situation. I shouldn't have to be put into this position. It is not rocket science to train a dog. In fact, it is very easy today to have a well-trained dog with so many free resources available through the internet. If God does not allow it, please pray I do not have to shoot that boy's dog. I place this situation in His hands and rest knowing He knows best. Please, if you get a dog, be responsible, train it well, and don't allow it to be a problem for others.
Scared, Sad About America's Waning Influence?
A friend of mine said she finds the events happening sad and scary. She is very disturbed by America's weakening. I shared what I believe the Lord impressed upon my heart. I share it here in case it can also help others:
In some aspects, yes, it is sad and scary. I was mourning for America until I felt the Holy Spirit nudge me about wanting my will (my country strong) vs the Lord's will for this time period. That really helped me. I am concerned for my lost extended family members, but I surrendered to God's will and plan there too. Surrendering to Him brings us such peace and comfort. Mostly, I am excited because I know we will be with the Lord soon. The Author of these things has shared with us that these events are necessary and are happening according to His will and for a reason. We can have joy knowing He is fully in charge and wins this big battle. It may not look like it on many fronts right now, but we have the victory! -w
*****
a reply: "That's beautiful. Thank you for sharing. I imagine we almost are feeling what the disciples felt in a way. Jesus told them that His death must come to pass and He would be risen up. How scary that must have been for them to witness, especially during His crucifixion. The things that are happening now and coming to pass must also happen. God is completely in control and wins." -f
Asbell Adventures: Our Inexpensive Set Up
We stay comfortable. We have a full-sized inner spring queen-sized mattress that fits in the back of the suburban. Clint puts down a log to help me step in and out of the Suburban. Some of our overlanding friends sleep with their heads to the back and exit the side doors. I like exiting the back. The backdoor does not shut all the way with the mattress pulled out. It's only open a crack, so we fasten a tarp to the luggage racks and just drape it over the door. When we open it, the tarp goes up with the door. If we are staying put for a while, we do the same thing but set the tarp up as a rainfly or sun shade during the day so we can sit under it. Tarps can be used as rainflys (rainflies?) on both sides and the back of the suburban which gives a lot of space out of the rain.
Emily and Hannah have an easy setup (sets up in seconds) tent with an air mattress. We keep a new tarp that can cover their tent in case they need it. So far, they have never needed it.
Night-time temperatures got down to 20 degrees, and we were all toasty in our beds. I wear a base layer to bed. I get hot when I sleep. Clint and the girls wear their slipper socks. The girls wear a hat or put a big comforter between their heads and the tent wall. The comforter touches their head and keeps them warm. Keep your head, hands, and feet warm, and you will be surprised how warm you stay.
We have 30 gallons of pressurized water on top of the suburban for cleaning and bathing. We have a 12v pump that will pump the water from the source to the tanks. I will go anywhere as long as I can bathe and keep cooking items sanitary. We have gone without the tanks and bathed and washed dishes with the creek water. Most of the time, we heat the water and bathe behind a tarp. We've gone on a few trips where Clint and I just bathed in the creek in 30-degree temps. Those were refreshing and invigorating experiences! :-D And, I am glad I have experienced them.
To see some of the other items we keep on board, see this post. (For those who read about our first mishap and might have noticed, yes, that is a new door on the Suburban.)
We own an RV motorhome and a travel trailer. We have also had popups, a fold-up, and a 5th wheel. We have several tents. We like camping in the 4WD Suburban the best because it can cross streams and rivers to get us where few people get to go. Fast to pack up and go! Quick to set up! Nowhere it can't go! It lets us do the 4WD roads and everything else. If you want to explore natural areas, this is an inexpensive way to get out there.
Some of the ideas here came from fellow overlanding friends and the rest we learned on our own as we went out and lived it. We've seen people with brand-new vehicles and very expensive setups to people in beat-up small trucks with nothing but a cooler of food. (They slept in the truck bed in sleeping bags.)
One of our favorite encounters was with a young man in a small, old truck (no 4WD) scooting up the Bald Mountain Jeep Trail off Coal Road better than the Jeep group with him. He was grinning from ear to ear and could fit in places the rest of us could not. All of us had his back if he needed it, but he never needed it!
Dear Reader, We have more expensive options to use, but we don't use them. Our RV motorhome, travel trailer, and large 10 x 20 tents are at home and not being used. Compared to the motorhome and travel trailer, the suburban takes less gas, is less weight to haul, less risk on the road, less work, less maintenance, and gives more access to the roads less traveled. I'm sharing that so those who read this and want to get out there aren't held back due to their wallet or lack of options. If you want to get out there and do it, be creative and go do it. If your attitude is good, you will have a great time and learn something no matter the weather or experience.

Bye Ratchet
Last night, we lost Ratchet, Clint's dog. Ratchet is the puppy that picked Clint. They had a very strong bond. It broke my heart to see my husband lose his little buddy. She followed him everywhere and loved going for rides with him. While we had her for less than two years, she had really made her place in our family. I am going to miss the nighttime snuggles and the game she and I played.
I hope the Lord allows her to play with our stillborn and miscarried children. I don't claim to know how these things work, but it is a nice thought. Whatever God has planned for pets and children, I know it is good, because He is good.
