Nor do we have any right to boast over them

When we look at the ungodly, we are not to hate them-but to pity them, mourn over them, and pray for them. Nor do we have any right to boast over them; for, by nature, and of ourselves, we are no better than they. -John Newton

But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that
while we were still sinners,
Christ died for us.
Romans 5:8

A few young people were confused by the quote. I'll explain. We can't boast over them because we needed redemption through Jesus too. Without Jesus, we'd be in the same place as they. "Of ourselves,"meaning without Christ, we would be just as lost as they. With Jesus, we are redeemed and made heirs with Christ. We pity them because they do not understand the profound difference Jesus makes to our present and our future.
